I’m exhausted. I’ve been on this street a thousand times. It’s never looked so strange… The faces: so cold! In the distance, a child is crying. Fatherless…a bastard child, perhaps. My back aches, my heart aches, but my beer… my beer tastes amazing! Thank the gods I opened a bottle and poured some EBK [open your eyes] from Adroit Theory! The first production run of Adroit Theory’s EBK line of New England-style IPAs, EBK [open your eyes] NE triple IPA possesses a smooth flavor and powerful punch, making it an extremely worthy entry into VA’s growing NE IPA market.

New England-Style Triple IPA, 10.5% ABV, 70 IBU

Presentation: Bottle pour into a glass and keg tapped into a glass.

Appearance: Orange tint, clean head, slightly hazy.

Taste: Gentle on the tongue, with just a hint of it’s high ABV on the finish. Juicy flavor, smoother than most triple or even double IPAs.

Mouth Feel: Perfect amount of carbonation. Small head, but just a little fizz felt throughout. Not as cloying as a typical TRIPA or DIPA.

Overall: EBK [open your eyes] (Ghost 560) is dangerously refreshing for such a high ABV ale. Great for warm weather and grilling (I had one of mine with burgers!). For those who like hazy NE-style IPAs, but not like the cloying booziness of average DIPAs or TRIPAs, this is the beer for you. EBK [open your eyes] is hazy and juicy but with a clean, polished flavor that compares very favorably with other, perhaps better known juice bomb peddlers in Virginia. Additionally, it remains consistent across both bottle and draft, and is currently still available in both styles across Northern VA (while supplies last!). Excuse me, I’m going to go out hunting for a case of it right now…

Score: 9.5
